Earlier this month, we visited San Antonio and had the absolute best time! Despite the cold weather, my husband and I made so many new memories and laughed way too much. (Yes, I made him participate in some IG reel challenges… check it out here).
I am so grateful we had the opportunity to sneak away for a few days and be kid-free. It’s so important to us and for our relationship! Lately I’ve been trying to do one trip with the kids and then the next one alone. So far it’s been working out great! If you have kids, how do you travel? Are you team “always with them” or mix it up from time to time? Let me know in the comments below. Now let’s get into all the details!
We stayed at the Omni La Mansion Del Rio on the river walk. It was the perfect location for our short trip! If you visit San Antonio, I highly recommend staying directly on the river walk. If you do stay at one of the many hotels along the river walk, make sure to request a river view room! You won’t regret it! For a hotel tour of our room, check out my “San An” highlight on Instagram.
There is so much to do and see in San Antonio! Our first two days there were pretty rainy and chilly but the sun finally peeked out during the weekend. A few of our favorite activities were:
- Taking the Rio Tour on the River Walk. If you like learning a little bit of history when you travel, then you will love this activity! Your guide will narrate the trip and give you all the details on San Antonio as you make your way down the river.
- Visiting the San Fernando Cathedral. This church has beautiful exteriors and interiors and we loved looking at the intricate details.
- Shopping at North Star Mall. You know my trip wouldn’t be complete without some shopping! We loved everything we found at this shopping mall.
- Taking in the views of The Alamo. Eric and I were shocked to find out that this historical landmark was in the middle of the city. There was so much foot traffic. We always assumed it would be in the middle of nowhere, but sure enough it was smack dab in the middle of the river walk. Have you been? Let me know if you were surprised too! *Keep in mind you are not allowed to take photos inside the building but can take photos of the exteriors*
- Walking around the Historic Market Square. It is so colorful and vibrant with so many different vendors and people milling around. Below I’ve recommended Mi Tierra as a restaurant to try out – it is located in this square!
Texas is full of amazing food! I mean, it’s known for it’s barbecue and Mexican-inspired dishes for a reason! The restaurants we loved and would recommend to any of our friends and family are:
- Mi Tierra Cafe y Panaderia (pictured above)
- Acenar
- Rosario’s
- Ostra Casa Rio

We wish we had more time to spend there! What do we need to make sure we see next time we go? If you have a couple of days to spend in the city, I highly encourage you to hit up a rodeo or see who is in town for a concert! That was one of the most thrilling events we attended!
